Coon Dog Day
The annual Coon Dog Day celebration in Saluda, held the first Saturday after the Fourth of July, always includes the Coon Dog Day Parade. They are proud to say that they will let anyone who wants to be in the parade participate. Sometimes they might want to vet the spectators, though. After all, that's most of what we get to see.
Just as the Christmas Parade reaches its finally with the appearance of the Santa's Sleigh float, so the Coon Dog Day Parade winds up with the Treed Coon.
In olden days (they've been doing this since 1962) they used a live raccoon; now it's stuffed.
We firmly believe.
Of course, it may be just petrified.
In 2003 we weren't just spectators. We were stars.
