Eventually I got all the crossties in place. I left plenty of cracks and gaps and spaces between the ties;
habitat for the toads and lizards, you know.

Then I ran the water line for the four spigots and filled in behind the wall with a mix of sandy dirt and compost.

To fill the gap between the crossties and the asphalt Mark and I used bagged pothole filler. Fun stuff to work with, buckets and trowels
and WD-40 to clean up - takes weeks to harden. You can also see, barely, the periwinkle taking hold at this end and the blue haze of petunias farther up.
